How to Clean Glass Tips in 2 Minutes (The Easy Way)
Share
Quick answer: let the tip cool, soak it in glass tip cleaner (or isopropyl alcohol) for a few minutes, give it a shake, rinse with warm water and let it dry. Done in about 2 minutes of actual effort.
What you need
- The Bakery glass tip cleaner or isopropyl alcohol
- A small jar or bag with a lid, or a Tip Tank
- Cotton buds or a pipe cleaner for stubborn bits
- Warm water and a towel
Step by step
- Let it cool. Never clean a warm tip. Glass and sudden temperature changes don't mix.
- Soak. Pop the tip in your cleaner for 5β10 minutes. Heavier build-up? Leave it longer.
- Shake. Close the lid and give it a good shake to loosen residue from the holes.
- Detail. Run a cotton bud or pipe cleaner through each hole. On 7-hole tips, go hole by hole.
- Rinse. Warm water, not boiling. Rinse until there's no smell of cleaner.
- Dry. Air dry on a towel. Make sure it's fully dry before use.
How often should I clean glass tips?
Every 3β5 uses keeps them tasting fresh. If you notice the draw getting tight or the taste changing, it's time.
The lazy (smart) way
Keep your tips in a Tip Tank. It's a cleaning station that holds up to 8 tips up to 13mm, so they're always clean, organised and in one place.
Mistakes to avoid
- Boiling water on cold glass: it can crack.
- Using a tip before it's dry.
- Scrubbing with anything metal: it scratches.
