The LoudBox Glossary: Rolling Accessory Terms A–Z
Never sure what KSS, 1¼ or perforated tips actually mean? This glossary explains every rolling accessory term you'll find on our site and on the packs, in plain English, A–Z.
#
- 1¼ (one and a quarter)
- A paper size, roughly 78 x 44–48mm. About a quarter wider than a single wide. See the size guide.
A
- Acacia gum
- The natural tree gum on most papers’ sticky strip. Also called gum arabic.
B
- Booklet
- A small pack of papers or tips, usually 32 or 50 leaves.
- Burn rate
- How fast a paper burns. Thinner papers and even rolling make for a slower, steadier burn.
C
- Card tip / roach tip
- A strip of thin card rolled into a filter at one end. Also called a crutch. Sold in booklets.
- Cone
- A pre-rolled paper shaped like a cone with a filter already inside. You just fill it and twist the end.
- Cone loader
- A funnel-style tool that fills several cones at once without the mess.
- Connoisseur pack
- RAW’s name for papers with tips included in the same pack.
- Criss-cross watermark
- A pressed pattern on some papers, like RAW, which the brand says helps it burn evenly.
F
- Flint
- The small stone in a lighter that sparks. On a Clipper, the whole flint unit is replaceable.
- Flip-top lighter
- A lighter with a hinged metal lid, like our star lighter series.
G
- Glass tip
- A reusable filter tip made of glass. Single-hole or multi-hole. See are glass tips worth it?
- Grinder
- A tool that breaks your blend down into an even texture. Usually 2–4 parts with teeth, or a toothless design.
- gsm
- Grams per square metre: how heavy (and thick) a paper is. Lower means thinner.
H
- Hemp paper
- Paper made from hemp fibre. Slightly textured and easy to handle. See the materials guide.
K
- King Size (KS)
- A long paper or cone, around 110mm. "King Size wide" papers are about 54mm or more across.
- King Size Slim (KSS)
- A long, slim paper, about 110 x 44mm. The UK’s favourite size.
L
- Leaf / leaves
- Individual papers in a booklet.
- Limited edition
- A short production run, often a collab, that won’t be restocked once it’s gone.
P
- Palm leaf wrap
- A pre-rolled wrap made from natural leaf rather than paper, like King Palm.
- Perforated tips
- Card tips that are pre-scored so they fold into a zig-zag easily.
- Poker
- Anything you use to pack the end of a cone or roll. The Clipper’s flint tube is the classic.
- Pre-rolled tips
- Filter tips that are already rolled into a cylinder, usually 6mm or 8mm.
R
- Rice paper
- The thinnest common paper type, made from rice. Smooth and almost see-through.
- Roll (paper roll)
- A continuous strip of paper, often 4–5m, that you tear to whatever length you want.
- Rolling tray
- A flat tray with raised edges to keep everything in one place while you roll.
S

- A box to keep your papers, tips, lighter and grinder together. Ours comes empty or fully stocked.

- A booklet of card filter tips.
- Toothless grinder
- A grinder that uses a blade or a different cutting surface instead of rows of teeth, like the LoudBox x Grinder One.

- Unbleached
- Paper that hasn’t been whitened, so it’s naturally light brown.
